For it’s 50 year anniversary Seiko Gakuin (a boys-only JHS+HS in Shizuoka) requested their library be transformed into a modern cafe-like commons - WCD removed the old ceilings and revealed the 50-year old concrete structure, pairing it with an interior to promote interaction and creative discussion between students and faculty alike. The result is an aesthetic ode to tradition, and an emphatic ideological jump, pushing the envelope and making a bold statement about learning environments in Japan. Location: Shizuoka.
